Persiana I like this

Persiana is a 32 year old married woman from Shiraz, Iran.
I'll be posting links and photos of Iran's archaeological and historic treasures. I think they are fascinating and belong to all humanity. Viewing them teaches one a great deal about the history, beliefs, arts and ways of living of ancient people. 11 12 15 17 19 22 25 27 30..33

Christmas images in Iran (post 2)

Azadi ("Freedom") Square, Tehran's main landmark, during Xmas.
The landmark is always decorated for any particular occasion.
Formerly known as Shahyad Tower, the square was built in 1971 in commemoration of the 2500th anniversary of the Persian Empire. This structure evokes Iran's pre-Islamic Sassanid (226 - 651) architecture, but in combination with Islamic-era decorative artwork.

'One Holy Person of the Trinity,
The Christ of God, the Light of Heaven and earth,
As man appeared among the sons of men;
Concealed his glory, majesty and worth.

The angels in the world above rejoiced;
The vault of heaven rang with joy and mirth.
To shepherds watching in the fields at night
They brought the tidings of his holy birth.

From a pure virgin by Divine command
Appeared the light that lighteneth man's days.
A brilliant star proclaimed the glad event:
In the far heaven shone its ardent blaze.

The Persian Magi saw, the effulgent star,
Illumining the sky like solar rays.
Towards Bethlehem with joyful steps they sped
To offer Him their precious gifts and praise.'

- Poem by Dr. Hamidi Shirazi, taken from the webpage Christ and Christianity in Persian Poetry.
In the poem "Persian Magi" refers to the Three Wise Men. Magi were Zoroastrian priests of ancient Persia. The English term 'Magic' is derived from that, though in Persian it did not imply magic. Another note is that Iranian Muslims do not believe in the concept of the Trinity (but do believe that Jesus was a prophet of God.) According to the page these "Persian verses of Dr. Hamidi Shirazi are a poetical translation of part of the famous inscription on a large stone tablet set up in China by Persian Christians in 781"
